JULIÁN QUINTANILLA
JULIÁN QUINTANILLA (Badajoz, 1975). Author, film and theatre director. He holds a degree in Stage Direction from the Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático (RESAD), in Cinema by the Université de Paris 8 and in Audiovisual Script by the École de Scenáristes de la France, from which he is the only Spanish enrolled so far. He now lives in France.
His adaptation of French plays, most of them awarded with the Molière Prize, has given him international acclaim and his texts have been premiered in over 20 countries: Toc Toc, Locos por el té, Los hombres no mienten, Los bonobos, Cónyuges, La jaula de las locas, El espíritu burlón, Guillermito y los niños, ¡a comer!, are some of his titles, starred and directed by outstanding figures of Latin American stage. His adaptation of the French comedy Toc Toc, written by Laurent Baffie, has been uninterruptedly on stage for ten years, breaking historical records in several countries, as well as receiving a high number of prizes. Likewise, he has directed several theatre shows written by living contemporary authors.
As a playwright, El gran día de la madre and El santo prepucio’s texts stand out, co-written with Valenzuela, as well as his comedy Hongos which premiered in Valladolid at Teatro Zorrilla (2021).
His last screen work, the short film El mundo entero, was pre-selected for the Oscars and runner for the Goyaprizes in 2018, besides having received 44 international prizes, among them the “Best Live Action Short Film” at the Cleveland International Film Festival.
