SERGI BELBEL (Terrassa, Barcelona, 1963). Author, translator, theater director, and educator. He graduated in Romance Philology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 1986. He was a Professor of Playwriting at the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona from 1988 to 2006. He was the Artistic Director of the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya from 2006 to 2013. He was the President of the Board of the Sala Beckett Foundation in Barcelona from 2016 to 2023.

His notable works include Minim.mal Show (written with Miquel Górriz, 1986), Elsa Scnheider (1989), Tàlem (1990), Carícies (1991), Després de la pluja (1993), Morir (1994), La sang (1998), El temps de Planck(2000), Forasters (2004), Mòbil (2005), A la Toscana (2007), Fora de joc (2010), Les roses de la vida(2017), Si no t’hagués conegut (2018) Hamlet.01 (2022) and Lali Symon (2023).

His works have premiered in over forty countries in Europe, America, and Asia, and have been translated into over twenty-five languages. The French version of his work Després de la pluja (Après la pluie) premiered at the Comédie Française in October 2017. He has directed productions of many theater authors, both classical and contemporary. He has also written screenplays for cinema and television. He is the creator of the series Si no t’hagués conegut (TV3, DiagonalTV, and Netflix, 2018).

He has received several awards, including the Premi Ignasi Iglésias (1987), Premi Nacional de Literatura Catalana (1993-95), Premi Born (1995), Premio Nacional de Literatura Dramática del Ministerio de Cultura (1996), Premi Molière for the best comedy for Après la pluie (1999), Premi Nacional de Teatre de la Generalitat de Catalunya (2000), Premio Max for international projection (2002), el Premi Ciutat de Barcelona (2003), varios Premis Butaca y un Premi Sant Jordi de novela (2021).
