CLAUDIO TOLCACHIR (Buenos Aires, 1975). Actor, director, teacher and playwright. His training started at the Instituto Labardén and the Andamio 90 school, founded by Alejandra Boero, key figure in Argentinian independent theatre from the 1960s onwards. He continued his training under the auspices of other directors such as Juan Carlos Gené and Verónica Oddó, while starting to work in professional shows both in the independent and commercial circuits.
He has worked as an actor in over thirty plays directed by Daniel Veronese, Norma Aleandro, Carlos Gandolfo, Roberto Villanueva and the like. In 2001, together with his group, he founded the TIMBRe4 company, still active as a cultural centre in Buenos Aires. The company staged Chau Misterix, Orfeo y Eurídice, Jamón del diablo, Lisístrata, La omisión de la familia Coleman, Tercer cuerpo, El viento en un violín, Emilia y Dínamo, the last five written by him. He has also directed plays like Atendiendo al Sr. Sloane, Agosto, Todos eran mis hijos, Buena gente, Tribus, Ay amor divino y La mentira, among others. He has been awarded the ACE, Clarín, María Guerrero, Teatro del Mundo and Teatro XXI Prizes, and was nominated for the Konex Prize as one of the best directors of the first decade of the 21st century. In 2014 he got again a Merit Diploma at the Konex Prizes, this time as a playwright.
In recent years, Tolcachir has also directed several plays by other playwrights, while continuing to teach at his own school, Timbre4, in Boedo, a popular neighbourhood in Buenos Aires. His works have been performed in over 20 countries and have been translated into six languages.
